Klaviyo flow recovery
Klaviyo abandoned cart recovery for the shoppers it lost track of
Klaviyo flows only fire for shoppers Klaviyo recognizes. Upstack Signal matches returning visitors to the Klaviyo profiles they already have, so your browse, cart and checkout abandonment flows reach the people they were built for.
- Same emails, same timing: our team mirrors your abandonment flows, so there’s nothing to rebuild
- Only profiles already in your Klaviyo account, never purchased data
- No new contacts, so your Klaviyo contact count stays the same

The problem
Your flows are fine. Klaviyo just can’t see who came back.
Klaviyo starts an abandonment flow when it can tie a visit to a profile. Cookies expire, people switch devices and social apps open links in their own browser, so a returning customer often arrives as an anonymous visitor and no email is sent.
Where the shoppers go missing:
| Moment | What Klaviyo sees | What happens to the flow |
|---|---|---|
| Safari clears Klaviyo’s cookie after 7 days away | An unknown visitor | Abandoned cart never starts |
| The customer moves from phone to laptop | A second, unrelated visitor | Browse abandonment never starts |
| They tap an Instagram ad, then come back in Safari | No link to their existing profile | Cart and browse flows never start |
“We went from struggling with Meta performance and missing Klaviyo revenue to having our best month ever — in less than 30 days.”
Self-check
Are your flows missing people? Five signs.
One of these is worth a look. Two or more usually means an identity gap, not a copy problem.
Abandoned cart volume falls while traffic holds
More people visit, but fewer of them ever enter the flow.
Strong revenue per recipient, few recipients
The emails work when they send. They just don’t send often enough.
Returning customers show up as new
Reports count people you’ve emailed before as first-time visitors.
Flows go quiet after a browser or iOS update
Privacy changes that shorten cookies shrink the audience Klaviyo can recognize.
Mobile and social traffic rarely enters a flow
Instagram and Facebook open links in their own browser, which doesn’t share Klaviyo’s cookie with Safari or Chrome.
Check it this week
Count the carts created in your store over the last 30 days, then the entries into your Klaviyo Added to Cart flow over the same 30 days. The gap is roughly how many shoppers your flows can’t reach.
Not sure how big the gap is? We’ll compare your carts with your flow entries on the call.
How it works
How Upstack recovers flow revenue.
Configured once. Your standard flows, templates and timing stay exactly as they are.
Capture every visit
The Upstack pixel records each product view, cart and checkout, and sends them to Klaviyo server-side, so delivery doesn’t depend on Klaviyo’s own browser script.
Recognize the shopper
Signal matches the visit to someone who has shopped or subscribed before, using your first-party data and our graph of 750M+ devices and 150M+ customers. Matching is deterministic and probabilistic, and an Upstack ID lasts the life of the customer, not the life of a cookie.
Find the profile they already have
Signal looks the shopper up in your Klaviyo account, first by the ID Klaviyo adds to email clicks, then by email address, and adds the event to that profile. If there’s no profile, nothing is sent and no contact is created.
Your abandonment flows reach them
Our team mirrors your browse, cart, checkout and site abandonment flows with the same emails. Each copy waits 30 minutes longer than your standard flow, and a 7-day exclusion means nobody gets both.
What changes
Before and after.
| Dimension | Klaviyo alone | Klaviyo with Upstack |
|---|---|---|
| Who can trigger a flow | Shoppers Klaviyo has identified in this browser | Returning shoppers matched to their existing profile |
| How long a shopper is recognized | Until the cookie is cleared or expires | For the life of the customer, across devices |
| New contacts added | Not applicable | None: only profiles you already have |
| Your flows | Not applicable | Unchanged, with Upstack copies sending the same emails alongside |
| Duplicate emails | Not applicable | Prevented by a 7-day exclusion between the two versions |
| Proof the revenue is new | Hard to separate from normal flow revenue | Upstack copies carry their own UTM campaign, so their revenue reports separately |

No email yet
Customers you have, and shoppers you don’t.
Signal recovers flows for people already in your Klaviyo account. A shopper who has never given you an email can’t be matched from your own data. Upstack Audience is the separate product for them.
Upstack Signal: customers you already have
Matches returning shoppers to their existing Klaviyo profiles, using your first-party data and our device graph. It adds events, never contacts.
Upstack Audience: shoppers you’ve never met
Matches anonymous visitors against opt-in partner data. Verified contacts go to a Klaviyo list called UpstackData, and shoppers you already have go to UpstackData Reactivate instead of being duplicated. From $0.025 per resolved match on a Signal plan, with a 14-day free trial.
Getting started
Your first two weeks.
Your flows keep running the whole time. Nothing is rebuilt or paused.
Install from Shopify
Add the Upstack app from the Shopify App Store. No developer time needed.
Connect Klaviyo
Add a Klaviyo private API key in Upstack, then invite our team to your Klaviyo account.
We set up your Upstack flows
Our team clones your abandonment flows and sets their triggers, delay and exclusions, then tests them. Setup is typically done within 48 to 72 hours.
Compare flow entries
Profiles usually start entering the Upstack flows within a day of going live. Give it 7 to 14 days of flow activity before you judge the revenue.

Common questions
Klaviyo flow recovery, answered.
Does Upstack add new contacts to Klaviyo?
Upstack Signal doesn’t. It only adds events to profiles that are already in your Klaviyo account, so it doesn’t change your contact count. Upstack Audience, a separate product, does add new contacts: shoppers it identifies from partner data go to a list called UpstackData.
Will customers get two abandonment emails?
No. Each Upstack flow waits 30 minutes longer than your standard flow, and both flows exclude anyone who received the other in the last 7 days. A shopper gets your standard email or the Upstack one, never both.
Do I need to change or rebuild my flows?
No. Our team clones your browse, cart, checkout and site abandonment flows and points the copies at Upstack’s events. The copies use your emails, design and steps, and your standard flows stay as they are. In Klaviyo the copies are labelled “Upstack Data”, and you keep full control of them.
How do I know the revenue is incremental?
The Upstack copies only send to shoppers your standard flows missed, and their links carry their own UTM campaign, so their revenue reports separately. Perfect White Tee tested Upstack head to head against another provider. That provider’s flows went to zero once the setup was fixed, while Upstack’s abandonment flows grew 50% in volume.
Doesn’t Klaviyo already re-identify returning visitors?
Partly. Klaviyo’s First-party ID and Extended ID can restore an expired cookie in the browser the shopper is using, and both are worth turning on. They help less when the shopper is on a device or browser they’ve never identified on, which is where Upstack’s matching across devices comes in.
Does it work with other email and SMS tools?
Upstack also sends identity-resolved events to Omnisend and Sendlane. The mirrored abandonment-flow setup our team configures is built for Klaviyo.
How quickly will I see results?
Flow setup is typically done within 48 to 72 hours of inviting our team. Profiles usually start entering the Upstack flows within 24 hours of going live, and the revenue needs 7 to 14 days of flow activity to read. The case studies on this page measured results over 30 to 90 days.
What about shoppers who have never given me an email?
Your own data can’t find a contact you never collected. Upstack Audience matches those visitors against opt-in partner data and adds verified contacts to Klaviyo. It runs on a Signal plan, from $0.025 per resolved match, with a 14-day free trial.
