Comparison

Upstack vs Opensend

Opensend identifies anonymous shoppers from its own network of opt-in consumer profiles and sells that as Connect, alongside Reconnect for returning customers and Ignite for server-side events. Upstack Audience identifies them with third-party partner data and runs on Upstack Signal, so your first-party identity and the shoppers you are meeting for the first time come from one pixel. The differences are how each is priced, where the matches go and what you have to buy first.

Why Brands choose Upstack Data

  • Pay per match, not per identity

    $0.025

One identified visitor is one match, even when it carries several emails or phone numbers. Opensend Connect charges $0.168 to $0.25 per identity delivered.

  • Matches reach Meta too

    8+

Audience sends each match to Meta through the Conversions API, so page views and add-to-carts carry enough identity for an Event Match Quality of 8+.

  • Built on our own identity graph

    750M+

Signal recognises your known customers against 750M+ devices and 150M+ customers, with an ID that lasts the customer’s lifetime. Audience adds the shoppers that graph has not met.

Common questions

Opensend pricing and Upstack vs Opensend, answered.

What is Opensend?

Opensend identifies anonymous visitors to an online store and sends their email addresses to your email and ad platforms. It sells three products: Connect identifies new visitors, Reconnect recognises returning customers across devices and browsers, and Ignite sends server-side event data to ad platforms. It also offers Personas, AI-generated customer segments.

How does Opensend work?

You install its pixel, Shopify app or server-side integration. When a visitor arrives, Opensend looks them up in its network of opt-in consumer profiles from US publishers and returns an email address and basic identifier information. It says it typically identifies 25–35% of anonymous visitors, and it filters out traffic from outside the US.

How much does Opensend cost?

Connect, its visitor identification product, has three published tiers. Billed annually: Tier 1 is $400 a month for 2,000+ identities, Tier 2 $800 for 4,300+ and Tier 3 $1,600 for 9,500+, or $0.20 down to $0.168 per identity delivered. Billed monthly the same tiers are $500, $1,000 and $2,000. Enterprise is quoted. Ignite, its server-side event tracking, starts at $250 a month. There is a 14-day trial for $1.

How is Upstack Audience priced?

Per resolved match: one identified visitor is one match, even when it carries several emails or phone numbers. Starter is 8,000 matches for $200 a month, Growth 25,000 for $500 a month and Scale 80,000 for $1,200 a month, billed monthly on a yearly plan with a 60-day opt-out. Larger volumes are quoted. Audience runs on a Signal plan, which starts at $149 a month for up to 1,000 orders, and has a 14-day free trial.

Is Upstack Audience cheaper than Opensend?

Per identified visitor, yes: $0.015 to $0.025 per match against $0.168 to $0.25 per Opensend identity. At about 9,500 identified visitors a month, Opensend Tier 3 is $1,600 a month billed annually; Audience Growth is $500 a month plus a Signal plan. If you have no use for server-side tracking or first-party identity, Opensend has no second plan to buy.

Do I need Upstack Signal to use Audience?

Yes. Audience runs on the Upstack pixel and the identity Signal resolves, so it is sold as an add-on to a Signal plan. Signal is server-side tracking, the Conversions API and first-party identity resolution, which Opensend sells separately as Ignite and Reconnect.

Where does Opensend do more than Audience?

Channels and breadth. Opensend integrates natively with Attentive, Braze, Bloomreach, Iterable, Listrak, Sendlane, Yotpo and Salesforce Marketing Cloud as well as Klaviyo, offers Google retargeting, programmatic and SMS re-engagement and AI Personas, and can be bought on its own. Audience delivers to Klaviyo, Omnisend and Meta.

Opensend vs Retention.com: how do they compare?

Both identify anonymous visitors from opt-in partner networks and sync them to your email platform. Opensend publishes its prices and network size (180M US shoppers); Retention.com publishes 250M+ US identities, says every email is inbox-verified before delivery and lists Klaviyo, Attentive, Omnisend and nine more email platforms, but does not publish prices. Both offer a 14-day trial.

What are the alternatives to Opensend?

For Shopify brands the closest are Retention.com, Tie (formerly Revenue Roll) and Upstack Audience. Upstack Audience is the one to choose if you also want server-side tracking and first-party identity resolution from the same pixel.

Can I run Opensend and Audience together?

Yes, for a trial. Exclude one tool’s new contacts from the other’s welcome flow so no shopper gets two, and compare contacts, flow revenue and Meta match quality on the same weeks before you choose.
