How are they built differently?

The deepest difference is where your data lives.

Polar puts every customer's data in a dedicated Snowflake database, and its pricing page says you hold the keys. On top sits a semantic layer of ecommerce metrics, defined once, so profit, ROAS, CAC and LTV mean the same thing in every report. Its Shopify listing now leads with an AI Operator that monitors your store and ads in Slack or Teams and, once you approve, shifts ad budgets, pauses sold-out ads or plans markdowns. Polar's MCP server exposes the same governed data to Claude and ChatGPT. If you have an analyst who wants SQL access, a warehouse you can query directly is the point of the product.

Triple Whale keeps the data on its own platform and puts the work in the interface: attribution, BI dashboards, creative analysis and the Moby AI agent. On Foundation, Moby works as an analyst; on Automate, it can adjust budgets, pause ads and launch campaigns within limits you set. Our overview of what Triple Whale is goes through each module.

So the choice often comes down to your team. A brand with an analyst or agency who will query the data tends to get more from Polar. A brand that wants answers in a dashboard, and an agent to act on them, tends to get more from Triple Whale.

Tracking and attribution compared

Both run a first-party pixel and attribute orders across channels.

Polar's attribution guide lists eight models: First Click, Last Click, Linear, U-Shaped, Time Decay, Full Paid Overlap, Full Paid Overlap plus Facebook views, and Full Impact. Full Impact credits every channel in the path, paid and unpaid, using a Shapley value calculation. First Click is the default for Polar's pixel metrics. The two Full Paid Overlap models give each paid channel full credit for a sale it touched, so totals exceed 100% by design; they show overlap rather than split credit.

Triple Whale's Free plan reports first-click and last-click attribution. Paid plans add multi-touch models, including Total Impact, which weights channels using post-purchase survey answers. Its pricing page no longer gives a count of models. Our guide to attribution models explains why the same order can be credited differently under each.

Both send data back to ad platforms. Triple Whale's Sonar Optimize reaches ten platforms' Conversions APIs, with a deduplication key, and can pass its attribution back to Meta as Custom Attribution. Polar's Advertising Signals sends conversion events to Meta and Google Ads. If you advertise mainly on those two, the difference is small. If TikTok, Reddit, Snapchat or Pinterest carry real spend, Triple Whale covers more of them.

Incrementality and MMM

Polar sells incrementality testing on its Custom plan: a dedicated data scientist runs lift tests on Meta, Google, TikTok or TV campaigns and measures impact across Shopify, Amazon or retail channels. Its pricing page doesn't list marketing mix modeling.

Triple Whale sells Compass, which combines MMM and incrementality testing, on Enterprise or as an add-on to Foundation and Automate. Neither price is published.

If these methods are new to you, our explainer on MTA vs MMM vs incrementality covers which question each one answers.

Polar Analytics vs Triple Whale pricing

Both price on GMV, and neither publishes a full price list on its own site.

Polar's pricing page shows two plans, Core and Custom, and asks you to book a demo. Its Shopify App Store listing shows the Core plan from $750 a month, priced on online GMV, billed every 30 days, with discounts for annual terms. Core includes BI, AI agents and data activations; Custom adds incrementality testing, the headless MCP, Klaviyo Audiences and Advertising Signals. Every plan includes the Snowflake database, the pixel, unlimited users and history, and a dedicated success manager.

Triple Whale's Shopify App Store listing shows Foundation from $219 a month or $2,190 a year and Automate from $749 a month or $7,490 a year. Enterprise is quoted. All paid plans are 12-month subscriptions, and the price rises with your GMV band. Our Triple Whale pricing guide covers the bands and add-ons.

At entry level, Triple Whale Foundation is about $530 a month cheaper than Polar Core: $219 against $750. Triple Whale Automate, at $749, lands next to Polar Core. Above the entry GMV band, both quote, so get written prices from each at your own GMV before comparing.

Two terms to weigh as well as price. Polar bills every 30 days; Triple Whale's paid plans commit you to a year. And Polar's support model, a dedicated success manager and Slack channel on every plan, is something Triple Whale reserves for higher tiers.

What do reviewers say about each?

Polar holds 4.9 stars from 116 reviews on the Shopify App Store, with 113 five-star and 3 one-star reviews. The App Store's own summary says merchants value it as a single source of truth, especially across several stores or brands, and praise fast, hands-on onboarding and support.

Triple Whale holds 4.1 stars from 94 reviews; 17 of the 94 (18%) are one-star. Our Triple Whale overview covers what reviewers praise and criticize, including cancelling a 12-month plan.

When neither is the right fit

Both Polar and Triple Whale price on revenue, so your bill grows as sales grow even if your marketing doesn't change. Some brands compare them because they want attribution and server-side events without that structure.

Upstack Data, our product, prices per order. Upstack Attribution reports first-click, last-click and any-click attribution with margin and LTV reporting, and Upstack Signal sends events server-side to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat and Klaviyo, resolving visitors against an identity graph of 750M+ devices and 150M+ customers. Attribution + Signal is $199 a month for up to 1,000 orders and $499 for up to 10,000, month to month, with a 21-day free trial. It focuses on Shopify and DTC brands and doesn't offer a data warehouse, MMM, incrementality testing or an AI agent, so it isn't a like-for-like swap for either.

Frequently asked questions

Is Polar Analytics better than Triple Whale?

It depends on how your team works. Polar is stronger if someone will query the data: every plan includes a dedicated Snowflake database and a semantic layer. Triple Whale is stronger if you want a lower entry price, server-side sending to more ad platforms and MMM through Compass.

Is Polar Analytics cheaper than Triple Whale?

Not at entry level. Polar's Core plan starts at $750 a month on its Shopify listing; Triple Whale Foundation starts at $219 a month on a 12-month term, and Triple Whale has a free plan. Both quote above their entry GMV bands.

Does Polar Analytics have a pixel?

Yes. Every Polar plan includes its first-party pixel, which powers its eight attribution models. First Click is the default for pixel metrics.

Does Polar or Triple Whale offer MMM?

Triple Whale does, through Compass on Enterprise or as an add-on. Polar's pricing page lists incrementality testing with a dedicated data scientist but not MMM.

Can I move my Triple Whale data to Polar?

Your Shopify, ad platform and email data reconnect directly, since Polar pulls them from the source. Attribution history built on the Triple Pixel won't carry over, so plan to run both pixels in parallel for a few weeks before you switch.

Polar Analytics vs Triple Whale: which has better support?

Polar includes a dedicated success manager and a Slack channel on every plan, and its Shopify reviews praise onboarding. Triple Whale reserves dedicated support for higher tiers.
