What Is Triple Whale? Features, Pricing, Reviews, Pros and Cons (2026)

Triple Whale is an ecommerce analytics and attribution platform built first for Shopify brands. It combines a tracking pixel (Triple Pixel), multi-touch attribution, BI dashboards, server-side data sharing with ad platforms (Sonar) and an AI agent called Moby. Paid plans are priced on annual GMV and sold as 12-month subscriptions.

This overview covers what each part of Triple Whale does, what it costs, and what its reviews say, checked against Triple Whale's own pages and Shopify App Store listing on October 22, 2026. For the full price breakdown, see our Triple Whale pricing guide; if you're already looking elsewhere, our Triple Whale alternatives comparison covers nine other tools.

What is Triple Whale used for?

Brands use Triple Whale for four jobs:

  • One view of the business. Paid, owned, subscription and organic performance on one dashboard, refreshed every 15 minutes or less, per its pricing page.
  • Attribution. Crediting each order to the ad channels and campaigns that drove it, using the Triple Pixel and a choice of models, so you can see which ad spend is working.
  • Sending data back to ad platforms. Sonar shares first-party customer events with Meta, Google, TikTok and others server-side, and with email and SMS tools.
  • An AI analyst and operator. Moby answers questions about your data and, on higher plans, takes actions in your ad accounts within limits you set.

Triple Whale now calls itself "the AI operating system built for modern commerce" and says more than 65,000 brands use it.

Who makes Triple Whale?

Triple Whale is a Columbus, Ohio company co-founded by AJ Orbach (CEO), Maxx Blank (COO) and Ivan Chernykh (CTO). According to TechCrunch's 2023 funding report, it raised a $2.7M seed round led by NFX, a $24M Series A in 2022 led by Elephant, and a $25M Series B in February 2023 from NFX and Elephant, with Shopify participating as a strategic investor. That's $51.7M across the three rounds.

The same report says the founders built the Pixel after Apple's iOS 14 privacy changes in late 2020 left Facebook's reporting unreliable for the brands they worked with. Attribution has been the core of the product since.

How does Triple Whale work?

Triple Pixel

The Triple Pixel is a JavaScript snippet, often placed in your site's header, per Triple Whale's help center. It feeds an identity graph that combines deterministic and probabilistic matching to follow visitors across devices and sessions. Triple Whale's marketing pages also describe server-side technology behind the pixel; the server-side sending it documents in detail is Sonar, below. On the Free plan the pixel is only partly enabled.

Attribution models and windows

Triple Whale's plan comparison lists seven models: Linear All, Linear Paid, First Click, Last Click, Triple Attribution, Total Impact, and Clicks & Deterministic Views. Its attribution marketing page says eight, depending on whether the two linear models count once or twice. Total Impact is the only one that uses post-purchase survey answers to weight channels.

Lookback windows are 1, 7, 14 and 28 days, plus lifetime, and the default is 28 days, per its attribution model guide. Free accounts get first and last click with a lifetime window only. If the model names are unfamiliar, our guide to first click vs last click attribution explains how rule-based models split credit.

Sonar: Send and Optimize

Sonar Optimize sends enriched first-party events to ad platforms through their Conversions APIs, with a deduplication key. Per Triple Whale's Sonar Optimize guide, destinations include Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Reddit, X, AppLovin, Realize, ChatGPT Ads, Snapchat and Pinterest, and it can pass attribution back into Meta's Custom Attribution. Sonar Send feeds the same data to email and SMS tools. Both are included in every paid plan. For background on why server-side events matter to Meta, see our Meta CAPI and first-party data guide.

Moby AI

Moby is Triple Whale's AI agent. On Foundation it works as an analyst: chat, plain-English questions about your data, and generated dashboards and reports. Automate adds scheduled automations, actions that adjust budgets, pause ads and launch campaigns within your approval settings, landing pages and Creative Studio. Every paid plan includes a Moby usage allotment; at 100%, Moby work pauses until you top up. A Triple Whale MCP connection also lets you query your data from tools like Claude and ChatGPT.

Compass: MMM and incrementality

Compass combines multi-touch attribution with marketing mix modeling and incrementality testing, including holdouts and geo-lift tests. It's included on Enterprise and sold as an add-on on Foundation and Automate. Our explainer on MTA vs MMM vs incrementality covers what each method answers.

Analytics, BI and everything else

Beyond attribution, Triple Whale's plan comparison lists a long set of reporting tools:

  • Real-time dashboards: data refreshes every 15 minutes or less, with more than 50 dashboard templates and a no-code builder for your own.
  • SQL editor and custom metrics: query your raw data directly, or build metrics without code.
  • Customer analysis: segments, plus cohort analysis that tracks retention and lifetime value over time.
  • Product performance: analysis by category, item and SKU, including product-level ROAS and LTV.
  • Ad creative analysis: which designs and copy work across platforms, segments and demographics.
  • Keyword-level attribution: Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and Search Console data combined; the Free plan covers organic terms only.
  • Ad platform controls: change ad statuses, bids and budgets without leaving Triple Whale.
  • Benchmarks: industry and peer benchmarks that show what good looks like for brands of your industry and size.
  • AI Visibility: how often ChatGPT and other AI assistants mention and cite your brand.
  • Mobile app: Triple Whale on your phone.

Triple Whale reviews: what users say

Triple Whale's reviews are split rather than middling: most reviewers either love it or are angry with it.

Review siteRatingReviewsFive-starOne-star
Shopify App Store4.19473 of 94 (78%)17 of 94 (18%)
Trustpilot3.3 TrustScore7544%50%

Both were checked on October 22, 2026. We left G2 out because we couldn't load its live page to confirm the current figure. On Shopify, only 4 of the 94 reviews are two to four stars.

What five-star reviewers praise:

  • Having every data source in one place, with a clean dashboard.
  • Moby, which reviewers describe as intuitive and well informed about ecommerce.
  • Individual support reps, often named, who stayed on an issue until it was solved.
  • Quick setup and integrations that keep working.

What one- to three-star reviewers criticize:

  • Slow or unresponsive support, the most common theme.
  • Difficulty cancelling a subscription.
  • Bugs and an interface reviewers found hard to use.
  • Data gaps, such as revenue that included VAT or shipping costs that weren't pulled from Shopify.
  • Needing to buy extra credits for Moby.

Who is Triple Whale best for?

Triple Whale fits Shopify and DTC brands that want attribution, BI and an AI operator in one platform, have the team to use most of it, and are comfortable with a yearly commitment. It's strongest for brands that will use Moby's automations and, at Enterprise scale, Compass for MMM and incrementality.

It's a weaker fit if you mainly need attribution reporting and server-side events for Meta, if a 12-month term is a problem, or if you'd rather your software bill didn't rise with your average order value. Those are the cases our Triple Whale alternatives guide is written for. If you're choosing between Triple Whale and one specific tool, see Triple Whale vs Hyros or Triple Whale vs Northbeam.

Frequently asked questions

What does Triple Whale do?

Triple Whale tracks ecommerce orders back to marketing channels using its own pixel, reports performance across paid, owned and organic channels, sends first-party events to ad platforms through Sonar, and offers an AI agent, Moby, that analyzes data and can act in ad accounts.

Is Triple Whale only for Shopify?

No, though it started there. Triple Whale integrates with Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and Stripe, and says its pixel works on all commerce platforms. TechCrunch's 2023 report described it as a single analytics platform for Shopify store owners.

Who owns Triple Whale?

Triple Whale is an independent, venture-backed company co-founded by AJ Orbach, Maxx Blank and Ivan Chernykh. Its investors include NFX and Elephant, and Shopify invested strategically in its 2023 Series B.

Does Triple Whale do server-side tracking?

Partly. The Triple Pixel is a browser script, and Sonar Optimize sends enriched events to ad platforms' Conversions APIs server-side. Sonar is included in every paid plan.

What is Moby in Triple Whale?

Moby is Triple Whale's AI agent. It answers questions about your store data on every paid plan and, on Automate and Enterprise, runs scheduled automations and takes actions like adjusting budgets or pausing ads within the approval settings you set.

How long does Triple Whale take to set up?

Triple Whale's pricing FAQ says most brands are running within 15 minutes with no engineer. Expect longer if you connect many integrations or set up Sonar for several ad platforms.

Is Triple Whale worth it?

It's worth it if you'll use its attribution models, Sonar, Moby and, at scale, Compass. If you mostly need attribution and Meta CAPI, a per-order or flat-priced tool on a monthly term can cost less. Our pricing guide has worked examples.

Is Triple Whale good for small businesses?

Its free plan is a low-risk way to see the dashboards, but multi-touch attribution starts at Foundation, listed from $219 a month on a 12-month subscription, or $2,628 over the year when billed monthly. For a store doing a few hundred orders a month, that's a large fixed commitment; our Triple Whale alternatives guide compares cheaper and month-to-month options.

Does Triple Whale have a mobile app?

Yes. Triple Whale's plan comparison lists a mobile app for using the platform on your phone.

Does Triple Whale have an API?

Yes. Triple Whale lists a Data-In API for sending your own data into Triple Whale and a Data-Out API for syncing its data to your warehouse, BI tool or internal apps. Warehouse export to BigQuery, Snowflake or Redshift is a paid add-on.

What are Triple Whale's main competitors?

The tools Shopify brands most often compare with Triple Whale are Northbeam, Polar Analytics, Hyros, Rockerbox, Lebesgue, ThoughtMetric, Wicked Reports, Cometly and Upstack. Our comparison of 9 Triple Whale alternatives covers each one's pricing, tracking and contract terms.

See how Upstack compares

Upstack covers the attribution and server-side tracking parts of Triple Whale, priced per order and month to month, without an AI agent or MMM. Our Upstack vs Triple Whale comparison lays out where each one is stronger.
