Elevar Review (2026): What Elevar by Audiense Is, How It Tracks, Pros and Cons

Elevar is a Shopify tracking app. It adds a data layer and server-side tracking to your store, then sends your events to Meta, Google Ads, GA4, Klaviyo and dozens of other tools. Since July 2026 it has been sold under the Audiense brand. It suits brands that send to many tools and want hands-on setup help. It's a weaker fit for small stores that need Meta and Klaviyo on a budget. If you're already weighing a switch, start with our Elevar alternatives comparison.

We checked everything in this Elevar review on October 24, 2026. Our sources were Elevar's Shopify App Store listing and reviews, its help docs, and Audiense's product, pricing and news pages. Upstack is our product and competes with Elevar, so we've stuck to what Elevar publishes and what its customers say. Plan-by-plan costs are in our Elevar pricing guide.

What is Elevar?

Elevar is server-side conversion tracking for Shopify and Shopify Plus stores. It captures your store's events in a data layer, enriches them with customer and click data, and sends them to ad, analytics, email and affiliate platforms through their server-side APIs. The app has been on the Shopify App Store since September 26, 2018, listed today as "Elevar Conversion Tracking". The developer is Elevar, LLC, with a Fort Worth, Texas address.

On July 21, 2026, Audiense announced that Elevar had earned Shopify Certified Technology Partner status. That status requires a third-party security assessment and meeting Shopify's bars for performance, privacy and merchant support.

Who owns Elevar?

Elevar is owned by Audiense, formerly Buxton:

  • January 17, 2024: Elevar announced it was joining Buxton, a retail and location analytics company.
  • 2025: Buxton, backed by PSG Equity, bought Audiense.
  • July 8, 2026: the group relaunched as Audiense, putting Buxton, Elevar and Audiense under one name, with Jim Swift as CEO. The release says Elevar "will become an Audiense product name".

Is Elevar now Audiense?

Elevar is now an Audiense product. Audiense sells Elevar's conversion tracking as Audiense Online. For a merchant, here's what has changed so far:

  • The website. getelevar.com now redirects to the Audiense Online page, which says "Audiense Online is powered by Elevar".
  • Pricing. Plans and prices are on the Audiense Online pricing page. The paid plans match the App Store listing.
  • What hasn't changed. The app, the developer name (Elevar, LLC) and the help docs at docs.getelevar.com all keep the Elevar name. The setup guide is now titled "How to Set Up Elevar by Audiense".

If you've seen "Elevar by Audiense" on an invoice or login page, it's the same product. The rebrand alone doesn't change how your tracking works.

How does Elevar work?

Elevar's help docs describe five working parts: the data layer, server-side tracking, Session Enrichment, consent handling and monitoring. Higher plans add profit and lifetime-value signals.

The data layer, with or without Google Tag Manager

Elevar's data layer captures standard ecommerce events: page and product views, add to cart, checkout steps, purchases, and email and SMS sign-ups through its dl_subscribe event. That data then feeds Google Tag Manager, Shopify's Web Pixel and server-side tracking.

Elevar is often described as GTM-based, but its docs now offer two setups, per its GTM and GTM-less guide:

  • The GTM setup routes events through a Google Tag Manager container. You get full data layer customization, extra client-side events and custom parameters such as GA4 custom dimensions. Elevar notes it often needs technical expertise or an agency to maintain.
  • The GTM-less setup sends events straight into Elevar's data layer, configured in Elevar's interface with guided checklists. Elevar says marketers can run it without developers. Client-side events are limited to its standard set.

Existing merchants on a stable GTM setup don't need to switch, the guide says.

Server-side tracking

Elevar sends events to each destination through that platform's server-side API, so ad blockers and browser limits on pixels have less effect. Its Channel Accuracy Report counts the orders sent to each destination, how many were accepted without errors, and what share of Shopify's orders that represents. It also shows ignored orders and why each was skipped. The usual reasons are missing consent, blocked sales channels or a missing click ID, which some destinations require.

Session Enrichment

Session Enrichment is Elevar's identity feature. Per its Session Enrichment docs, it does three things:

  • Recognizes returning visitors with a 1-year server-set cookie, which browser limits on cookies don't cut short.
  • Attaches contact details to later events. It listens for email and SMS sign-ups, logins and checkouts, ties those email addresses and phone numbers to a user ID, and sends future server events with them.
  • Keeps attribution data. It stores click IDs, UTMs and referrers, with an attribution window you control.

The main use case is Klaviyo. Once a Klaviyo cookie expires, Elevar can still identify the returning shopper, so abandonment flows fire. Elevar says Session Enrichment increases identifiable events by 50 to 60%, and its product page claims a 2 to 3 times lift in Klaviyo flow performance. Both are Elevar's own figures. The docs don't describe matching the same shopper across different devices.

On Shopify, consent comes through Shopify's Customer Privacy API, with Google Consent Mode support. Headless and non-Shopify stores use Elevar's own Consent API. The pricing page lists 11 compatible consent tools: OneTrust, Cookiebot, Usercentrics, Ketch, Osano, CookieYes, Consentmo, Pandectes, Pie Eye, TrueVault and Shopify's own banner.

Monitoring and alerts

Every plan includes monitoring, with daily or weekly email alerts and a server events log that shows each destination's response and error codes. This is how you'd catch a destination quietly rejecting events.

Boosted events and the Attribution Feed

Advanced and higher plans can send profit-aware conversion values to ad platforms. Premium adds predicted lifetime value and a "comeback" score, which is in beta.

Elevar also has an Attribution Feed, also in beta. It shows first-touch and last-touch UTMs for recent Shopify orders, which you can sort by revenue and export. Elevar's own docs say it isn't a replacement for Google Analytics and doesn't include other attribution models such as data-driven.

What does Elevar integrate with?

The Audiense Online pricing page lists 46 destinations in five categories, plus compatible consent and subscription apps. The App Store listing says 50+ integrations.

CategoryExamples from the pricing page
Advertising (20)Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Pinterest, Reddit, Microsoft Ads, LinkedIn, X, AppLovin, OpenAI, Taboola, Outbrain, MNTN
Analytics (7)GA4, Mixpanel, Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar, Lucky Orange, Piwik PRO, Zeenk
Email and SMS (10)Klaviyo, Attentive, Postscript, Omnisend, Braze, Iterable, Sendlane, Ometria, Wunderkind, Retention
Affiliate (7)AWIN, CJ, Impact, Partnerize, Pepperjam, Rakuten Advertising, Voluum
Attribution and BI (2)BigQuery, Google Pub/Sub
Subscriptions (6)ReCharge, Skio, Bold Subscriptions, Ordergroove, Smartrr, Upscribe

The catch is plan limits. Base and Core allow 2 destinations, and only advertising or analytics ones. Email and SMS, affiliate and BI destinations start on Advanced, which allows 4. Premium allows 10 and Elite 25. On Advanced and above, each extra destination is $125 a month.

Elevar runs on Shopify through the app. Premium and Elite add the Elevar API framework, which sends the same signals from Magento and Adobe Commerce, WooCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud and other platforms.

Setup: what to expect

Elevar's setup guide follows six steps:

  1. Connect your sources. Add your Shopify store, plus any non-Shopify subdomains such as a blog or landing pages.
  2. Turn on Session Enrichment.
  3. Add destinations. Meta comes first in the guide.
  4. Answer store questions. For example, whether you run more than one domain or post-purchase upsells.
  5. Remove your previous tracking to avoid counting events twice.
  6. Go live.

You can install it yourself. Elevar's GTM-less guide says that path can go live "in minutes instead of days or weeks". Expert installation is a $1,000 one-time fee on every paid plan, and headless or API installation is $4,500. On October 24, 2026, the Audiense Online page offered free white-glove installation to anyone who signs up before November 6.

The removal step matters more than it looks. If your old Meta pixel or Shopify's Facebook channel keeps sending the same purchase, platforms count it twice. Our guide to Meta event duplication on Shopify covers the checks. In low-star reviews, the most common setup complaint is the amount of code involved, both going in and coming out.

How much does Elevar cost?

Elevar prices by monthly orders and by the number of destinations:

  • Base is free to 100 orders a month, then $0.75 per extra order.
  • Paid plans run from Core at $225 a month for 2,000 orders to Premium at $1,250 for 30,000.
  • Elite starts at $3,000 a month.
  • Trial. Paid plans include a 15-day free trial, and the App Store bills every 30 days.

Our Elevar pricing guide covers every plan, overage rate and add-on, with what Elevar costs at different order volumes.

Elevar reviews on the Shopify App Store: what merchants say

On the Shopify App Store, Elevar has a 4.8 rating from 170 reviews, as of October 24, 2026. The breakdown:

  • 153 five-star, 1 four-star and 3 three-star reviews.
  • 2 two-star and 11 one-star reviews.
  • Overall, 16 of 170 reviews (9%) are three stars or lower.

We didn't check G2 or Trustpilot.

What five-star reviewers praise. We read the 10 most recent five-star reviews, from June 23 to September 29, 2026:

  • 8 of 10 credit a named onboarding or support person for the setup.
  • 6 of 10 say their data across Meta, Google Ads and GA4 became more reliable or consistent.
  • 1 of 10 singles out the structure of the data layer for GTM work.

Several are from customers who have used Elevar for two to three years.

What low-star reviewers criticize. These are all 16 reviews rated one to three stars, from October 2019 to April 2026:

ThemeReviews mentioning it
Tracking that was inaccurate, incomplete or no better than before7 of 16 (44%)
Support that was hard to reach or didn't resolve the problem6 of 16 (38%)
Setup or removal that took heavy technical work5 of 16 (31%)
Costs: installation fees, charges after uninstalling, or the app not being free past 100 orders5 of 16 (31%)

Half of those 16 reviews date from 2023 or earlier, and 5 of 16 are from 2025 or 2026. Elevar's founder replied personally to 9 of the 16, and in one case refunded a $1,500 onboarding fee and the last month's charge. Read the complaints as the experience of a small minority, but take the setup and removal ones seriously if no one on your team works with tracking code.

Where Elevar is stronger than Upstack

Upstack Signal competes with Elevar for server-side tracking on Shopify, so here is where Elevar has the edge:

  • A free plan. Elevar's Base plan is free to 100 orders a month. Signal is $149 a month for up to 1,000 orders, with a 21-day free trial.
  • GA4 and analytics tools. Elevar sends server-side events to GA4, Mixpanel, Microsoft Clarity and Hotjar. Upstack is built around ad platforms and Klaviyo, and GA4 isn't on our integrations list.
  • A data layer to build on. Teams that want to own custom tags in Google Tag Manager get a documented data layer with Elevar. Upstack doesn't use GTM containers and doesn't offer a data layer for custom tags.
  • Track record. Elevar has been on the App Store since 2018, has 170 reviews and is a Shopify Certified Technology Partner.

Where Signal differs:

  • Identity. Each visitor is resolved against Upstack's identity graph of 750M+ devices and 150M+ customers, using deterministic and probabilistic matching. The Upstack ID lasts the life of the customer, across devices.
  • Destinations. Every supported destination comes on every pricing band.
  • Setup and terms. There's no GTM container, setup takes under 20 minutes, and billing is month to month.

Signal doesn't track phone calls and is focused on Shopify and DTC brands.

Is Elevar worth it?

Elevar is worth it for two kinds of brand:

  • GTM teams. Teams that run Google Tag Manager and want a reliable Shopify data layer under it.
  • Brands with many destinations at volume. At 10,000 orders a month, Advanced works out to $0.065 an order and covers email, affiliate and BI destinations. Those brands often value the onboarding staff that five-star reviewers keep naming.

It's harder to justify for a store under 10,000 orders that mainly needs Meta and Klaviyo, because email destinations start on the $650 Advanced plan. It's also not the tool for attribution reporting or cross-device identity, which Elevar doesn't document.

Frequently asked questions

What is Elevar?

Elevar is a server-side conversion tracking app for Shopify and Shopify Plus. It captures store events in a data layer, adds customer and click data with Session Enrichment, and sends events to ad, analytics, email and affiliate platforms. It works with or without Google Tag Manager.

What is Elevar by Audiense?

It's the same Elevar product under its owner's new brand. In July 2026, Buxton, Elevar and Audiense combined under the Audiense name. Elevar became an Audiense product, and its conversion tracking is sold as Audiense Online.

Who owns Elevar?

Audiense, the company formerly known as Buxton, which is backed by PSG Equity. Elevar joined Buxton in January 2024, Buxton bought Audiense in 2025, and the group took the Audiense name in July 2026.

Is Elevar legit?

Yes. Elevar has been on the Shopify App Store since 2018 and holds a 4.8 rating from 170 reviews. In July 2026 it earned Shopify Certified Technology Partner status. Its low-star reviews, 9% of the total, mostly concern tracking gaps, support and setup effort.

Does Elevar need Google Tag Manager?

No. Elevar documents both a GTM setup and a GTM-less setup. Without GTM, events flow straight into Elevar's data layer and you configure them in Elevar's interface. With GTM, you get more room for custom events and parameters but take on maintaining the container.

Does Elevar do attribution?

Only in a limited way. Elevar's Attribution Feed, in beta, shows first-touch and last-touch UTMs for recent orders. Elevar says it isn't a replacement for Google Analytics, and it doesn't offer multi-touch or data-driven models. Most brands pair Elevar with a separate attribution tool.

How much does Elevar cost?

The Base plan is free to 100 orders a month. Paid plans run from $225 a month for 2,000 orders to $1,250 for 30,000, and Elite starts at $3,000. Our Elevar pricing guide has every plan, overage rate and add-on.

Does Elevar work with Klaviyo?

Yes. Klaviyo is an email and SMS destination, available from the Advanced plan. Session Enrichment helps Klaviyo recognize returning shoppers after its own cookie expires, so more abandonment flows fire.

What are the best Elevar alternatives?

That depends on why you're leaving:

  • To drop Google Tag Manager: Littledata and Upstack Signal.
  • To keep GTM: Analyzify and Stape.
  • For larger brands with compliance needs: Blotout.

Our Elevar alternatives comparison covers 8 options with prices checked in October 2026.
