Opensend Review (2026): What Opensend Is, Where Its Data Comes From, Pricing, Pros and Cons
Opensend is a visitor identification platform for ecommerce brands, and one of the tools in our guide to Opensend alternatives. It matches anonymous visitors on your store against a network of opt-in consumer profiles from US publishers, then sends their email addresses to your email and ad platforms. It's an established company with published prices, from $400 a month billed annually, and a $1 trial. Its limits are per-identity pricing, US-only coverage and three products sold separately.
We checked Opensend's website, pricing page, help center, terms of use and Shopify App Store listing on October 24, 2026; Upstack is our product. Upstack Audience competes with Opensend, so this review sticks to what Opensend publishes and says plainly where Opensend does more.
Opensend review: the verdict
| Opensend is a good fit if you... | Look elsewhere if you... |
|---|---|
| Want new contacts from US shoppers who browsed but never signed up | Get a large share of your traffic from outside the US |
| Send email through Klaviyo, Braze, Iterable, Bloomreach, Listrak or Salesforce Marketing Cloud | Want one flat fee however much traffic you get |
| Want a published price, month-to-month terms and a cheap trial | Want to install and start without an onboarding call |
| Want help setting intent thresholds and protecting deliverability | Only want to use data your own shoppers gave you |
Our take. Opensend does one job well and is open about how: it identifies US shoppers who show intent, checks the email, skips contacts you already have and syncs the rest into your email platform. The price is public, the trial costs $1 and the terms are month to month. The trade-offs are a bill that grows with every identity, no coverage outside the US, and a revenue figure on its dashboard that counts every order from an identified shopper rather than only the extra ones.
What is Opensend?
Opensend is a software company that identifies anonymous visitors to online stores. Opensend Inc is a Delaware corporation, per its terms of use. In an April 2025 interview republished on its blog, its SVP of sales said it was founded in 2017 by data experts who had sold data to other identity resolution providers before building their own software.
It sells mainly to direct-to-consumer brands, with a separate version for B2B companies that adds enrichment such as work emails and LinkedIn profiles. Its homepage says more than 1,000 brands use it, and its pricing page lists customers including Dr. Squatch, True Classic, Prose and BruMate.
Did Opensend acquire Fueled?
Yes. Opensend bought Fueled, a first-party data and server-side tracking company, in early 2026, and Fueled's founder Sean Larkin joined as Chief Product Officer, per Opensend's Q1 2026 product update. Fueled is now sold as Opensend Ignite. The same update lists what shipped that quarter: form listeners that capture emails and phone numbers typed into your site's forms, a server-side replacement for Shopify's deprecated Y cookie, real-time Reconnect events into Attentive, a TikTok Conversions API integration and usage alerts on billing.
How does Opensend work?
Opensend sells three products and two smaller tools. Each is priced on its own.
Connect: identifying new visitors
Connect is the core product. You install Opensend's pixel, Shopify app or server-side integration. When a visitor shows enough intent, Opensend looks them up in its network and sends their email address and some basic identifier information to your email platform, where they can enter welcome and abandonment flows.
Per Opensend's help center, the default threshold on a DTC site is 55 seconds of active time, weighed alongside pages viewed, scroll depth, carts started and similar signals, and you can change it. After the threshold, Opensend waits about a minute before syncing, so the shopper has time to sign up through your own form, and it doesn't deliver contacts already in your email platform or on a suppression list you upload. Its FAQ says it typically identifies 25 to 35% of anonymous visitors.
Reconnect: recognizing returning customers
Reconnect keeps a customer's identity across devices, browsers and sessions, so your abandonment flows still fire when a known customer comes back on a new phone or a cleared browser. Since the Q1 2026 update, its form listeners attach emails and phone numbers to Reconnect's identity graph as shoppers type them, and Reconnect can stream product views, cart activity and checkout starts into Attentive in real time.
Ignite: server-side events, formerly Fueled
Ignite captures events on the server, enriches them against Opensend's identity network and sends them to Meta's Conversions API, Google, TikTok, Klaviyo and Attentive, per its Ignite page. Opensend claims an 80 to 95% match rate and a 22% average ROAS lift; both are its own figures.
Personas and Revive
Personas groups your customers into AI-built cohorts that you can sync to your email and ad platforms. Revive replaces email addresses that have started bouncing with the same people's active addresses. Neither has a published price.
Where does Opensend's data come from?
This is the question most buyers ask first, and Opensend answers more of it than most vendors in the category:
- Opt-in publisher data. Opensend's homepage describes a "proprietary database of opt-in consumer profiles" covering 180M US shoppers, with a 73% match rate on US shoppers, and says it sees traffic for more than 100,000 US sites.
- Consent to partner marketing. Its help center says it only provides data where its publishing partners have verified consent: the visitor opted in to sharing their data with partners, and partners of partners, for marketing.
- Device-level matches. Each email address Opensend provides was recently used to sign in to one of its publishing partners' sites from the same device that is now on your site, per its accuracy article. It notes that household members sometimes share a device, and says multi-step validation keeps bounce rates well under 1%.
- Named publishers, in 2025. In the 2025 interview, Opensend said its graph covered about 200 million US consumers who had opted in through publishing partners, naming The New York Times, Rolling Stone and Quizlet.
- US only. Its FAQ says its sources are US publishers and it filters out non-US traffic by IP location.
- Your own data stays yours. Opensend says customer data collected from your site is used only to serve you, and no other client receives it.
Is Opensend legal?
Opensend says it complies with US laws, including CAN-SPAM and the CCPA. Its help center adds that in the US you aren't prohibited from emailing your website visitors unless they've opted out, and that the visitors it identifies have opted in to partner marketing through its publishers.
Two things are on you. First, Opensend's terms require your privacy policy to disclose that your site uses third-party tags and cookies and that you use third-party services to send promotional emails to visitors, and they give suggested wording. Second, rules outside the US differ, which is one reason Opensend only identifies US traffic. Our visitor identification guide covers the legal questions in more detail.

Setup: what to expect
Opensend isn't self-serve. Its help center says the Shopify app isn't public on the App Store because its team works with each brand before launch, reviewing the email program, suppression, sending plan and deliverability.
On Shopify, Opensend's team provisions the app, you install it, then switch on the Opensend app embed in your theme. Its setup guide also recommends changing Opensend's app pixel from "Optimized" to "Always on" under Settings > Customer events, because Shopify now defaults app pixels to Optimized. The pricing page says most teams are running in under 10 minutes; the 2025 interview put assessment, a tour and implementation at about half an hour.
The work that takes longer is on your side: a welcome flow for contacts who never signed up, suppression of unengaged profiles to control your Klaviyo bill, and watching unsubscribe and complaint rates in the first weeks. Opensend's help center has guides for each.
How much does Opensend cost?
Connect is $400, $800 or $1,600 a month billed annually for 2,000+, 4,300+ or 9,500+ identities, or $500, $1,000 and $2,000 billed monthly, which works out to $0.168 to $0.25 per identity. Reconnect is $150 to $600 a month billed annually, and Ignite is from $250 a month. Connect and Reconnect start with a 14-day trial for $1, and Opensend's terms describe month-to-month service you can cancel before the next month starts. Our Opensend pricing guide covers every tier, the annual totals and the cancellation terms.
Opensend reviews: what customers say
There's less independent review material for Opensend than for most tools we cover:
- Shopify App Store. Opensend's main Shopify app isn't publicly listed, so it has no App Store reviews. Its only public listing, Opensend Email Revive, launched April 8, 2024, had no reviews when we checked.
- Review sites. We didn't check G2, Capterra or Trustpilot for this review, so we don't quote their ratings. Opensend's homepage shows four review scores, from 4.8/5 to 9.4/10, which we didn't verify.
- Opensend's own customer stories. Its homepage quotes Kut from the Kloth on $107,000 in revenue in its first 30 days, and Benchmade on more than $85,000 in placed orders in 30 days, checked with a test group and a control group. Opensend chose these, so read them as best cases.
- Competitors' tests. Retention.com's comparison with Opensend reports one brand running both tools for three weeks in spring 2026, with Retention.com earning $1.55 per email against Opensend's $0.49, and only 3.2% of identified contacts overlapping. That's a competitor's test, not an independent one.
The practical answer is to treat the trial as the review: compare revenue per identified contact, unsubscribes and spam complaints against your own subscribers over the same weeks.
Is Opensend legit?
Yes. Opensend is an incorporated company that, by its own account, has operated since 2017 and serves more than 1,000 brands. It publishes its prices, its terms of use and a help center that explains how its data is sourced, how accurate it is and how it handles consent, and it bought another company, Fueled, in 2026.
"Legit" doesn't settle two other questions. One is whether the contacts it delivers earn more than they cost for your store, which only a holdout test answers. The other is whether emailing shoppers identified through third-party data suits your brand and your sender reputation. Opensend's thresholds and suppression help on both, but they're your decisions.
Opensend pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Published prices and a 14-day trial for $1 | Per-identity pricing: the bill grows with the identities you take |
| Month-to-month terms, per its terms of use | US traffic only |
| Integrates with Braze, Iterable, Bloomreach, Listrak and Salesforce Marketing Cloud as well as Klaviyo | Connect, Reconnect and Ignite are billed separately |
| Intent thresholds and a sync delay, so you don't pay for shoppers about to sign up anyway | Not self-serve, and the Shopify app isn't publicly listed |
| Doesn't deliver contacts already in your email platform or suppression list | Dashboard revenue has no attribution window, so it isn't incremental |
| Explains its data sourcing, consent basis and accuracy in its help center | Few independent reviews we could verify |
Is Opensend worth it?
For a US-focused DTC brand that wants more shoppers in its welcome and abandonment flows, Opensend is a sound first tool to test: the price is public, the trial costs a dollar, and you can leave at the end of a month. It's especially strong if your email runs on Listrak or Salesforce Marketing Cloud, which none of the alternatives we compared lists as an integration.
It's harder to justify at high volume, where per-identity pricing adds up and a flat-fee or per-match tool may cost less, or if much of your traffic is outside the US. Judge it on incremental revenue, not on the dashboard's Placed Order Value, which per its help center has no set attribution window. Our Opensend alternatives guide compares the other options.
