About Amazon Ads

What Amazon Ads is, and why identity matters to it.

Amazon Ads spans Sponsored Products and Brands on Amazon itself, plus a demand-side platform that buys across the open web.

A brand selling in both places is running two businesses with two sets of numbers, and almost no way to compare them honestly.

How it works

How Amazon Ads works.

Amazon reports campaign cost, impressions and clicks through its Advertising API, against its own campaign hierarchy. On-Amazon conversions it measures completely, because the purchase happens on its own property. Off-Amazon conversions it sees only if you send them, which is the other half of this integration and lives on the Amazon Conversions page.

Upstack will pull the cost side in and join it to resolved orders, so the marketplace channel is measured on the same basis as every other one. The comparison that becomes possible is the one most brands cannot make today: what a customer acquired on Amazon is worth against one acquired direct, after the fee difference.

What you can do with it

Three jobs Amazon Ads does once it is connected.

  1. Capture every order server-side

Amazon Ads events are captured from the server rather than the shopper’s browser, so ad blockers, ITP and consent banners stop deciding which of your conversions get counted. Nothing depends on a script surviving the page.

  2. Resolve each event to a person

Every Amazon Ads event is matched against a 750M+ device graph before it leaves, so a phone browse and a desktop checkout resolve to one customer rather than two strangers. Returning buyers are recognised as returning.

  3. On-Amazon and off-Amazon, one basis

Amazon cost data lands next to your own store orders, so marketplace and direct performance can be compared on margin rather than on two dashboards that do not agree.
