Northbeam Review (2026): What Northbeam Is, How It Attributes, Pros and Cons
Northbeam is a marketing attribution platform for ecommerce brands with large ad budgets. It pairs its own first-party pixel with your order data to run seven attribution models, including one that credits ad views the platforms verify. MMM and incrementality testing are add-ons on its higher plans. It suits brands spending six figures a month on ads that want measurement from one vendor. Below that, the $1,500 Starter floor is hard to justify. If you're already weighing a switch, start with our Northbeam alternatives guide.
We checked everything in this Northbeam review on October 24, 2026. Our sources were Northbeam's pricing page, help docs and Shopify App Store listing, its press releases, and its G2 and Trustpilot pages. Upstack is our product and competes with Northbeam on attribution, so we've stuck to what Northbeam publishes and what its customers say. Plan-by-plan costs are in our Northbeam pricing guide.
Northbeam review: the verdict
| Northbeam is a good fit if you... | Look elsewhere if you... |
|---|---|
| Spend six figures a month on ads across several channels | Spend under about $20,000 a month on ads: Starter's $1,500 floor is a large share of that budget |
| Want multi-touch attribution, MMM and incrementality testing from one vendor | Want to try it first: there's no free trial, and every plan books a demo |
| Buy a lot of video and view-heavy media and want verified view-through credit | Need a Conversions API setup: Northbeam's own docs say Apex doesn't replace your pixel or CAPI |
| Want a media strategist (Professional) or a dedicated Customer Success Manager and Slack channel (Enterprise) | Want to be live this week: Shopify implementations take two to four weeks |
| Sell on Amazon or run TV through Tatari and want it in the same dashboard | Sell in health and wellness: Northbeam says its verified-views model may not have enough matched orders for "sensitive" categories |
What is Northbeam?
Northbeam is a marketing measurement platform for ecommerce and direct-to-consumer brands. It offers multi-touch attribution (MTA), media mix modeling (MMM) and incrementality testing, built on its own first-party pixel and your store's order data. Its pricing page says more than 1,000 companies use it.
Austin Harrison, a serial entrepreneur, and Dan Huang, an AI researcher, founded the company in 2019, per its October 2025 press release. Harrison was CEO as of that release. The Shopify app has been listed since October 19, 2022, with a San Francisco developer address.
Who owns Northbeam?
Northbeam is an independent, venture-backed company:
- August 16, 2022: Northbeam closed a $15 million Series A led by Silversmith Capital Partners.
- October 7, 2025: it announced a strategic growth investment led by HighPost Capital and Silversmith, without disclosing the amount. The same release launched Clicks + Deterministic Views, its verified-views attribution model.
- Backers named in that release: Silversmith Capital Partners and Lorimer Ventures, plus HighPost as the new investor.
We found no announcement of an acquisition. Ask about the roadmap on a demo call, as you would with any vendor.
How does Northbeam work?
Northbeam's help docs describe six working parts: the pixel and your order data, the attribution models, Clicks + Deterministic Views, Apex, MMM+ and incrementality, and a set of reporting and AI tools.
The pixel and your order data
Everything starts with tracking you install:
- A DNS A-record for first-party tracking. The implementation guide says pixel and event tracking won't work correctly without it.
- The Northbeam pixel, site-wide. On Shopify, it goes in your theme's
<head>and in a Custom Pixel under Customer events, which covers checkout, per the pixel docs. Stores that don't use Shopify's checkout count as "Custom", which is available on Professional and Enterprise only. - Order data. Shopify stores install Northbeam's app. Other platforms send orders through the Orders API.
- Northbeam's UTM parameters on your ads. Northbeam calls them required and warns that adding them may reset ads into a learning phase.
During validation, Northbeam aims for its pixel to catch 85% of web orders, allowing for some loss to cookie blockers.
Seven attribution models
Northbeam's attribution model docs list seven models:
| Type | Models |
|---|---|
| Simple | First Touch, Last Touch, Last Non-Direct Touch |
| Multi-touch | Linear, Clicks-Only, Clicks + Modeled Views, Clicks + Deterministic Views |
The last three are Northbeam's own. Clicks + Modeled Views uses machine learning to estimate the effect of views.
Click windows run 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 90 days, plus lifetime value. On Clicks + Modeled Views, each click window pairs with a one-day view window. Attribution windows only work in Accrual accounting mode, per the window docs.
A separate lookback window decides how far back a touchpoint can earn credit at all: 90 days, 180 days (the default), one year or ten years.
Expect Northbeam's numbers to differ from Meta Ads Manager. Its pricing FAQ says that's by design.
Clicks + Deterministic Views
Clicks + Deterministic Views (C+DV) is the feature Northbeam leads with. It adds view data from participating ad platforms to its click data. Each view is tied to a purchase through an exact identifier, such as an order ID or hashed email, inside Northbeam's clean room. Northbeam built it with Meta, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, Axon, MNTN and Vibe.
Per the C+DV docs:
- Credit is pooled by platform. Each platform starts with an equal share of the view credit, then splits it across its own views, so serving more impressions doesn't win more credit.
- Only participating platforms get view credit.
- The data refreshes three times a day.
- Not everyone gets it. If Northbeam can't match enough order IDs to impressions, C+DV won't be available, which the docs say often happens in sensitive categories such as health and wellness.
Apex
Apex sends Northbeam's attributed credit for each ad back to an ad platform so its algorithm can optimize toward it. Per the Apex docs:
| Platform | Status |
|---|---|
| Meta | Data sharing for every customer. Optimizing against it is Meta's Custom Attribution, set per ad set and in beta, with broader rollout during 2026 |
| AppLovin | Available |
| Snap | Closed beta |
| Apex consent is needed for C+DV, but Apex isn't used for optimization |
Apex is additive. The Apex FAQ says its events are custom types (Passback and AppendAttribution), not Purchase events, and don't affect Event Match Quality. Order-level events carry an IP address and user agent but no emails, names, phone numbers or device IDs. Northbeam tells customers to keep their existing pixel and CAPI setup running. Its own A/B tests show up to 25% higher ROAS with Apex, per the same docs.
MMM+ and incrementality
MMM+ is Northbeam's media mix model. It's an optional add-on on Enterprise only. Northbeam says it:
- updates forecasts and budget allocations daily, not quarterly;
- models promotions and seasonality;
- can take Northbeam's own MTA data as an input.
Incrementality launched in August 2026, per Northbeam's announcement. It runs:
- holdout tests against a control group;
- geo tests when a randomized holdout isn't possible;
- calibration of the MTA and MMM results.
Results are reported as incremental ROAS. It's optional on Professional and Enterprise. If you're deciding which of the three methods you need, our MTA vs MMM vs incrementality guide covers what each one answers.
Reporting and AI tools
- Creative Analytics compares ad creative across platforms. It defaults to Clicks + Modeled Views with a one-day click and one-day view window.
- Metrics Explorer looks for correlations between spend and revenue, which is how Northbeam handles offline channels such as TV, podcasts, direct mail and CTV. Its offline channel docs say plainly that this is correlation, not causation.
- Northbeam AI answers questions about the product and your data inside the dashboard, on every plan.
- The Northbeam MCP, also on every plan, lets ChatGPT (paid plans) or Claude read your dashboards. It's read-only.
What does Northbeam integrate with?
Northbeam's documentation has setup guides for these channels, checked October 24, 2026:
| Category | Integrations with setup guides |
|---|---|
| Ad platforms | Meta, Google and YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, Reddit, X, Microsoft Ads, AppLovin |
| TV, CTV and programmatic | Tatari, MNTN, The Trade Desk, Vibe.co, Universal Ads, LiveIntent |
| Marketplaces and social shops | Amazon (Seller Central and Amazon Ads), Meta and TikTok Shops |
| Affiliate and partners | Impact, Rakuten, ROKT |
| Email and SMS | Klaviyo, Attentive |
| Stores | Shopify through its app; any other platform through the Orders API |
Channels without a spend integration, such as influencers or podcasts, can be added through a custom spend sheet or the Spend API.
Setup: what to expect
The implementation guide splits onboarding into account setup, data validation and learning the platform:
- Timeline: two to four weeks for Shopify brands with light dev work, and four to eight weeks for other platforms.
- Validation: Northbeam needs at least three fully tracked days of data before validating your account. It checks orders, pixel coverage, UTMs and ad account connections.
- Revenue definition: gross sales plus shipping and taxes, minus discounts, by default.
- Ad accounts: connected by a user with admin access. If that user loses access, the account disconnects.
What you get after setup depends on your plan:
| Feature | Professional and Enterprise | Starter |
|---|---|---|
| Platform walkthrough and training | Yes | No |
| Customer Success Manager | Yes | No |
| Media Strategy team and recurring data reviews | Yes | No |
| Ticket support and documentation | Yes | Yes |
If you use Apex, changing your target metric resets the model's calibration, which Northbeam says takes about two weeks to warm up again.
How much does Northbeam cost?
Northbeam's pricing page sets plans by ad spend:
- Starter: from $1,500, month to month, for brands spending less than $1.5M a year on ads.
- Professional: from $3,500 a month on an annual term, for brands spending up to $500K a month.
- Growth and Enterprise: custom.
Final prices depend on your pageviews. There's no free trial.
G2's pricing tab shows different figures ($1,000 for Starter MTA and $2,500 for Professional MTA), so go by Northbeam's own page. Our Northbeam pricing guide covers every plan, add-on, term and first-year cost.
Northbeam reviews: what customers say
There isn't much public review data on Northbeam. Here's all of it, checked October 24, 2026:
| Source | Rating | Reviews | What stands out |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify App Store | 5.0 | 3, all from late August 2023 | Detailed reporting, LTV views, consistent data across models and windows, knowledgeable support |
| G2 | 4.5 out of 5 | 16 | We couldn't load the individual reviews to read their themes |
| Trustpilot | 2.6 TrustScore | 4, all one-star | Hard onboarding, support that faded after the sale, a refused refund, and an unrequested marketing email |
Some context on each source:
- Shopify App Store. The three reviews come from brands that had used Northbeam for nine months to more than a year. One said it helped them scale past $1 million a month in ad spend.
- Trustpilot. The profile is unclaimed, and Trustpilot notes that Northbeam hasn't invited customers to review, so the sample may not be representative. Trustpilot counts two of the four as from the last 12 months. The oldest describes problems with a Magento integration and a refund request that was turned down.
That's 23 reviews across three sites, too few to settle anything. Northbeam's public docs are a better guide to what you'd be buying. Ask for references at your own ad spend before you sign.
Northbeam pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Seven attribution models, including views the platforms verify | Starter starts at $1,500, with no free trial |
| MTA, MMM+ and incrementality testing from one vendor | MMM+ is an Enterprise add-on, and incrementality needs Professional or higher |
| Apex feeds Northbeam's attribution into Meta and AppLovin optimization | Apex doesn't improve Event Match Quality or replace your Conversions API setup |
| Integrations beyond ad platforms: Amazon, Tatari TV, The Trade Desk and affiliates | Implementation takes two to four weeks on Shopify, and UTM changes can reset ad learning |
| A media strategist on Professional; a CSM and Slack channel on Enterprise | Starter has no CSM, walkthrough or media strategy support |
| Northbeam AI and the MCP on every plan | Annual terms above Starter, and non-Shopify checkouts need Professional or Enterprise |
| More than 1,000 customers, backed by Silversmith and HighPost | Little public review data, and a 2.6 Trustpilot score from four reviews |
Where Northbeam is stronger than Upstack
Upstack is our product, so here's where Northbeam is the better choice:
- MMM and incrementality testing. Upstack offers neither. If that's what you're buying, Northbeam is the stronger pick.
- Verified view-through credit. C+DV credits views the platforms verify. Upstack's three models are first click, last click and any click.
- Channels beyond online ads. Northbeam pulls in Amazon, TV through Tatari, CTV and programmatic. Upstack focuses on Shopify and DTC brands and doesn't track calls or offline media.
- A managed measurement team. Media strategists and Customer Success Managers on the higher plans.
Where Upstack differs:
- Pricing. Upstack Attribution is $99 a month for up to 1,000 orders, and Attribution + Signal is $199. Both are month to month, with a 21-day free trial and a 60-day 4x ROI guarantee.
- Events sent to the ad platforms. Signal sends server-side conversion events with customer identity to Meta, Google, TikTok and Klaviyo. Each one is resolved against an identity graph of 750M+ devices and 150M+ customers, using deterministic and probabilistic matching, with an ID that lasts the life of the customer.
- Setup. Under 20 minutes from the Shopify app, with no DNS records or UTM overhaul.
Is Northbeam worth it?
It depends mostly on your ad spend:
| Monthly ad spend | Likely plan | What it costs as a share of spend | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Over $500K | Enterprise | Custom | Worth it if you'll use MMM+, incrementality and the support team |
| $125K to $500K | Professional, from $3,500 | 0.7% to 2.8% | Worth a demo, especially for brands heavy on Meta, TikTok or video |
| $20K to $125K | Starter, from $1,500 | 1.2% to 7.5% | Possible, but Starter has no CSM or strategy support |
| Under $20K | Starter, from $1,500 | Over 7.5% | Hard to justify for attribution alone |
Northbeam fits brands spending heavily across several channels, especially video and view-heavy platforms. It also fits teams that want a managed measurement partner rather than running analysis in-house. If you mainly need multi-touch attribution and cleaner conversion data for Meta and Google, a tool priced on orders usually costs less. If you're weighing Northbeam against free reporting, our Northbeam vs Google Analytics comparison covers that case.
Frequently asked questions
What is Northbeam?
Northbeam is a marketing measurement platform for ecommerce and DTC brands. It combines its own first-party pixel with your order data to provide multi-touch attribution, with media mix modeling and incrementality testing as add-ons on higher plans.
What does Northbeam do?
It shows which ads, channels and creatives drive revenue, using seven attribution models, including Clicks + Deterministic Views for platform-verified views. Through Apex, it can send its attribution back to Meta and AppLovin for optimization. Its MMM+ and incrementality add-ons forecast budgets and measure causal lift.
Who owns Northbeam?
Northbeam is independent and venture-backed. Austin Harrison and Dan Huang founded it in 2019, and Harrison was CEO as of October 2025. Silversmith Capital Partners led its $15 million Series A in 2022, and HighPost Capital and Silversmith led a growth investment in October 2025.
Is Northbeam legit?
Yes. It's an established, funded company that says more than 1,000 companies use it, and its Shopify app has been listed since 2022. Public reviews are scarce, though: 5.0 from 3 on Shopify, 4.5 from 16 on G2 and 2.6 from 4 on Trustpilot. Ask for references at your spend level.
Does Northbeam only work with Shopify?
No. Shopify stores connect through Northbeam's app, and other platforms send orders through its Orders API. Stores that don't use Shopify's checkout need the Professional or Enterprise plan, and setup takes four to eight weeks instead of two to four.
How accurate is Northbeam?
That depends on your setup. Northbeam aims for its pixel to catch 85% of web orders and needs its UTMs on every ad. C+DV ties views to orders through exact identifiers, but only on participating platforms. Northbeam's pricing page claims an average 3.5% increase in ROAS and 4.9% lower customer acquisition cost 180 days after activation; that's its own figure, not an independent study. Its numbers won't match each ad platform's, by design.
What are Northbeam's competitive advantages?
Northbeam's pricing FAQ points to its in-house device and identity graphs, its MTA modeling process and a flexible data architecture. In practice, the features competitors don't all match are C+DV, Apex and MMM+ alongside MTA in one platform.
What are the best Northbeam alternatives?
For MTA, MMM and incrementality at enterprise budgets, Rockerbox. For BI and an AI agent in one Shopify app, Triple Whale. For a data warehouse, Polar Analytics. For attribution and server-side tracking priced per order, Upstack. Our Northbeam alternatives guide compares eight of them. Our Northbeam vs Rockerbox comparison and Triple Whale vs Northbeam guide cover the closest matchups.
