How do Triple Whale, Northbeam and Rockerbox track orders?

Triple Whale uses the Triple Pixel, a header script feeding an identity graph that combines deterministic and probabilistic matching. Sonar Optimize sends enriched events server-side to the Conversions APIs of Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, Reddit and others, and it's included in every paid plan. Our overview of what Triple Whale is covers the rest of the platform.

Northbeam uses a browser pixel that, per its pixel docs, must fire on every page and waits for visitor consent before sending data. Orders arrive through the Shopify connector, or an Orders API for other platforms. Northbeam Apex sends order-level data to Meta through the Conversions API, per its Apex docs.

Rockerbox pairs a JavaScript pixel with the Shopify API as a backup source, per its Shopify integration docs. It also ingests an hourly Meta view-through feed, places impression pixels on display and streaming ads, and covers offline channels through promo codes and post-purchase surveys. It sends conversions to Google Ads through a Conversions API integration.

All three use a browser pixel at their core. What sets them apart is what each one adds: Triple Whale adds the broadest server-side sending to ad platforms, Northbeam adds verified and modeled views, and Rockerbox adds offline media.

Attribution models and lookback windows

Triple Whale and Northbeam both offer a deterministic-views model that credits an ad view only when the ad platform confirms it. Beyond that, their model sets differ:

  • Triple Whale: Linear All, Linear Paid, First Click, Last Click, Triple Attribution, Total Impact and Clicks & Deterministic Views. Total Impact weights channels with post-purchase survey answers. Windows: 1, 7, 14 and 28 days, plus lifetime; the default is 28 days.
  • Northbeam: First Touch, Last Touch, Last Non-Direct Touch, Linear, Clicks-Only, Clicks + Modeled Views and Clicks + Deterministic Views, per its attribution model docs. Click windows run 1, 3, 7, 14, 30 and 90 days, plus LTV, and they're only available in Accrual accounting mode.
  • Rockerbox: first touch, last touch, even weight and modeled multi-touch, plus custom credit allocation, per its help docs. Rockerbox applies long windows by default: 150 days for clicks and 90 days for deterministic views.

Neither Triple Whale nor Northbeam publishes an independent test of attribution accuracy, and both will disagree with Meta Ads Manager, which counts view-through and modeled conversions in its own windows. Modeled views fill gaps with estimates; deterministic views and click-only models count less but are easier to audit. Whichever you trial, compare its attribution data with Shopify's order export over the same weeks before trusting it to move paid media budget.

If you sell considered purchases with long customer journeys, Rockerbox's and Northbeam's longer click windows matter. For impulse purchases, Triple Whale's 28-day default is usually long enough. Our guide to multi-touch attribution for small ecommerce brands covers how window length changes the numbers.

MMM and incrementality testing

All three offer both, but on different terms:

  • Triple Whale bundles MMM and incrementality (holdout testing and geo-lift) into Compass. It's included on Enterprise and an add-on on Foundation and Automate.
  • Northbeam sells MMM+ and Incrementality as add-ons on its higher tiers. MMM+ updates forecasts and budget recommendations daily.
  • Rockerbox offers MTA, MMM and testing together, and its homepage says managed tests can start within one to two weeks.

None of the three publishes a price for these. If MMM is the main reason you're comparing, get all three quotes with MMM included, since it changes the totals far more than the base plan. For when you need MMM at all, see MTA vs MMM vs incrementality.

Reporting, dashboards and creative analytics

Triple Whale has the broadest reporting for a Shopify team: dashboards that refresh every 15 minutes or less, more than 50 templates, a SQL editor, cohort and LTV analysis, product analysis, and creative analysis that shows which ads and copy drive creative performance. It also has benchmarks against peer brands and a mobile app.

Northbeam offers customizable omnichannel dashboards, product and creative analytics, profit benchmarks and its MCP for querying data from AI tools. Professional adds unlimited data exports, and Enterprise adds granular touchpoint exports and geo-specific dashboards for data teams.

Rockerbox is built to feed your own stack: its data foundation exports to a data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift, or to Google Sheets, for analysts to model themselves.

Media buyers who live in dashboards tend to prefer Triple Whale's or Northbeam's views. Brands with an in-house data team get more from Rockerbox's exports or Northbeam Enterprise.

Triple Whale's prices come from its Shopify App Store listing, since its pricing page shows none; see our Triple Whale pricing guide for the GMV bands. Northbeam's come from its pricing page: Starter is for brands spending less than $1.5M a year on ads, and Professional for brands spending up to $500K a month. Rockerbox's plans page asks you to choose a mix of products and book a demo.

Northbeam also sells a custom Growth plan, bundled with a partner agency, for brands spending under $200K a month on ads.

At entry level, Northbeam Starter costs nearly seven times Triple Whale Foundation's listed price, but Starter is month to month while Foundation commits you for a year.

What you'd pay at three store sizes

Store A ships 800 orders a month at a $90 average order (about $864,000 a year) with $15,000 a month in ad spend. Store B ships 2,500 orders at $90 (about $2.7M a year) with $60,000 in ad spend. Store C ships 9,000 orders at $120 (about $13M a year) with $250,000 in ad spend. Add-ons such as MMM are extra on every tool.

Limitations of each tool

  • Triple Whale: paid prices aren't published and rise with GMV; paid plans are 12-month subscriptions; Moby usage is metered; and 18% of its Shopify reviews are one-star, mostly about support and cancelling.
  • Northbeam: the entry price is high for smaller brands; its pixel waits for visitor consent, so it sees less of non-consenting traffic; lookback windows only work in Accrual mode; and there's little public review data to go on.
  • Rockerbox: no published prices, setup often takes a few weeks, and most of its Shopify reviews date from 2020.

What older comparisons get wrong

Many Triple Whale vs Northbeam pages were written before both products changed. Watch for these claims:

  • "Triple Whale has no MMM." It does: Compass includes MMM and incrementality on Enterprise.
  • "Northbeam doesn't use a pixel" or "has no AI." Northbeam's docs describe a browser pixel on every page, and every plan includes the Northbeam MCP.
  • "Both require annual contracts." Northbeam Starter is month to month; Triple Whale's paid plans are 12-month subscriptions.
  • "Northbeam starts at $1,000" or "Triple Whale costs $129." Northbeam's pricing page lists Starter at $1,500, and $129 isn't a current Triple Whale price.

Where Upstack fits

Upstack Data, our product, is not an MMM or incrementality platform, and it has no AI agent. It covers two jobs most Shopify brands buy these tools for: getting complete conversion data to Meta and other ad platforms server-side, and attribution reporting on the same data. Upstack Signal handles the server-side events with identity resolution, and Upstack Attribution has first-click, last-click and any-click models with unlimited lookback.

Pricing is per order and month to month: Attribution from $99 a month, and Attribution + Signal from $199. See Upstack vs Triple Whale and Upstack vs Northbeam for line-by-line comparisons.

Frequently asked questions

Is Northbeam better than Triple Whale?

Northbeam is stronger on measurement depth for large ad budgets, with modeled views and daily MMM forecasts. Triple Whale is broader, adding BI, Moby AI and a free plan, and it's cheaper to start. Which is better depends on your spend and whether you need MMM.

Is Northbeam more expensive than Triple Whale?

At entry level, yes. Northbeam Starter is $1,500, while Triple Whale's Shopify listing shows Foundation from $219 a month. Both rise as you grow: Triple Whale with your GMV, Northbeam with your ad spend and pageviews.

Does Northbeam have MMM?

Yes. Northbeam sells MMM+ and Incrementality as add-ons on its higher tiers. Triple Whale includes MMM and incrementality in Compass on Enterprise, and Rockerbox offers both alongside its attribution.

What's the difference between Northbeam and Rockerbox?

Northbeam focuses on digital ad measurement, with modeled and verified views and daily MMM. Rockerbox, owned by DoubleVerify since 2025, adds offline channels such as TV, streaming and direct mail, uses longer default windows, and typically takes a few weeks to set up.

Is Northbeam more accurate than Triple Whale?

Neither publishes an independent accuracy test, so there's no neutral answer. Northbeam's Clicks-Only model, which its docs call its most accurate, and both tools' deterministic-views models rely on hard data; modeled views trade some certainty for coverage. Compare each tool's attribution data with Shopify orders over the same weeks to see which one matches your store.

Do Triple Whale and Northbeam track view-through conversions?

Yes. Both offer a Clicks + Deterministic Views model that credits a view only when the ad platform verifies it. Northbeam also has Clicks + Modeled Views, which estimates views with machine learning.

Which is easier to set up, Triple Whale or Northbeam?

Triple Whale says most brands are running within 15 minutes. Northbeam's Shopify setup involves its pixel in your theme, a custom pixel for checkout and the Shopify connector, per its docs. Rockerbox says setup often takes a few weeks.
